The name “Istanbul” has its origin in the linguistic evolution of the ancient Greek form “eis ten polin” After the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople the city became the capital of the Ottoman Empire and was renamed “Islambol” which means “city full of Islam” in Ottoman Turkish. Over time, the pronunciation of “Islambol” morphed into “Istanbul”, and this name has been used ever since to refer to the city. Istanbul is located in a unique geographical location spanning areas in Europe and Asia. One of the best-known hills in Istanbul is Sultanahmet Hill, where important historical sites such as the Blue Mosque and Santa Sofia are located. Another prominent hill is Çamlica Hill, which offers panoramic views of the city from the Asian side. These hills have contributed to the creation of different neighborhoods and areas with unique characteristics.
